Why commute? A business case for boosting bottom lines and employee productivity
By: Rand Stephens (Houston)
Avison Young just published a white paper on the very important topic of commute reduction. (Full white paper may be viewed by clicking here). In full disclosure, I had a lot to do with it, which explains my promoting of the topic in this blog posting. It’s time for corporate America to grab the “bull by the horns” and provide some real leadership in reducing the commute! Not only is it the right thing to do by improving peoples' quality of life, it makes good economic sense for the organization.
Every 15 seconds the U.S. adds a new person to the population. This is the net number which includes births, immigration and deaths. Federal, state and local governments can’t build freeways and public transit to keep up with this growth, so the commute will continue to get worse without some outside-the-box thinking, proactive leadership and behavioral change.
