What is TransitScreen?
TransitScreen provides real-time, location-specific information about all transit options at, or nearby, a particular location. For Avison Young's downtown Toronto location, our TransitScreen displays schedule information for all nearby Toronto Transit Commission streetcar routes and subway lines, GO Transit regional commuter train and bus lines, three car share options (AutoShare, Zipcar, Car2G0), Bike Share Toronto availability, and UBER availability. The information on our TransitScreen is tailored to our needs and is refreshed every 30 seconds.
Why did Avison Young install TransitScreen?
Three reasons.
1. Marry our transit-rich location with relevant and timely data. We chose our downtown office location in a LEED Gold office building at 18 York Street in part because it is superbly located next to Toronto's Union Station. Union Station is Canada's busiest transportation hub, providing access to Toronto city subways and streetcars, regional commuter trains and buses, national passenger trains, and the Union Pearson Express - Toronto's airport rail link connecting Union Station to Pearson International Airport. Our downtown Toronto office location has a Walk Score of 99 and a Transit Score of 100.
2. Support the existing commuting and transportation choices of our downtown Toronto employees. 25% of the people who work in our downtown Toronto office walk to the office each day (and use transit during the day to go to meetings) and 50% of the people take public transit to the office each day. Our TransitScreen installation supports these cost-effective, healthy and environmentally sustainable transportation choices.
3. Be innovative and demonstrate global citizenship. We are an innovative company in many ways and naturally we look for new opportunities to be innovative. Our unique Global Citizenship Strategy includes a focus on operational excellence. Integrating TransitScreen into the operations of our downtown Toronto office helps us demonstrate global citizenship by supporting transportation choices that reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
